This week James Catton of the Physician Associate podcast interviews Richard Marks. They discuss the background to the the legal dispute with the GMC, how it is being funded and the goals it hopes to achieve.

The legal challenge started with the (belated) introduction of statutory regulation. When regulation was first proposed it was widely understood that regulation would be a way of setting scope of practice. But that hasn’t been the way that the GMC has approached it.

A key part of the discussion is around the reason the legal action is aimed at the GMC, rather than the Medical Royal Colleges, and how Associates themselves will benefit from having a national scope.

Finding out each others point of view was an interesting and eye-opening experience.
