We are grateful to over 2600 pledgers providing over £85,000 to our campaign. We still have some way to go, but the key mission we need to achieve is to break the campaign to the public sphere, given the far reaching implications it has.
Over 650 comments have been received. We have read every single one of them.
Please take time to forward this campaign to those close to you, particularly if they use the NHS. We will need everyone’s support to make this a success!

We need to support this, doctors are fighting for you, me, the corrupt GMC is using its clout money, no surprise there, to try to prevent legal action. The public can’t afford to stand by and do nothing. The future of our health care is at stake, determining if yiu see a Dr or a PA with just 2yrs. |
The primary trust we have in our NHS is access to trained doctors both in primary care and in hospital. It is being put at risk by the recruitment of ” medical professionals” and “physician associates ” in place of qualified trained physicians. The GMC and Govt failing us and giving an unequal NHS. |
How many regulatory bodies face legal action from large numbers of their members? Regardless of the legal verisimilitudes, the GMC should acknowledge that the mere existence of this campaign is a damning indictment, and that they require wholesale reform. |
Thank you for doing this! |
Good trouble. Member of public. |
The most important crowdfunder Ive seen in a long time. For safety of all patients today & the future. |
I believe the challenge to the GMC from the Anaesthetists is essential. The GMC has not been behaving properly to the medical profession properly for years. With AAs and PAs patient safety is put at risk. I wish you every success. |
Vital the public support this cause like their life depends upon it. It literally does. |
Incredibly important fight. You have my full support. |
I wish you well in your efforts to keep patients safe. |
Thank you for taking this on |
Good luck with taking down a politically protected Goliath |
Good luck! |
My contribution to patient safety & to ascertain my children are safe when accessing NHS services. |
You have my full support |
I studied hard to become a doctor and gave 40 years to the NHS. The life of my infant daughter was saved by skilled doctors. I will not see the quality of medical of care debased by political careerists. |
Extremely grateful to you all for taking this action 🙏🏼👏🏼x |
Keep up the good fight. For the sake of the profession and the public, the GMC must go. |
Thank you for taking this legal challenge on. |
AU doing vital work on behalf of the entire medical profession. |
Thank you, keep going! |
hope the lawyers are vicious attack dogs / no survivors left behind types. Best of luck from Oz |
Solidarity from a patient. |
With you all the way. Need scooe and regulation not medicine in the cheap and dangerous |
Thank you for fighting for our safety |
Yessir |
Fight the good fight |
Thank you for your hard work and dedication. |
The NHS is there to prevent hidden treatable disease and our trust that we can readily access a qualified GP and trust the qualifications of all going forward is essential. |
Thank you for fighting for UK medicine! |
AU are fighting to maintain standards in UK medicine and for all of us as patients. |
Save the noble profession of being a doctor! |
Thank you |
Please stop this in its tracks. It is incredibly dangerous and the public are blind to it. |
Top work |
Excellent work Anaesthetists United |
Stop this madness! |
Doctoring needs to be left to doctors. |
I agree it is vital to have proper legally binding regulatory governance and a National Scope set for MAPs with safely defined supervison on permissable tasks. I wholeheartedly support your case against the GMC |
Sad I have to pay the GMC with my other hand to work against the interests of Drs and patients |
Thank you for the brave work you are doing! |
Thank you, your fight is the publics fight and most importantly all patients safely. |
The GMC was made to ensure quacks do not masquerade as doctors, yet now they are advocating for the opposite. The GMC has desecrated the original principles upon which it was founded. Thank you for standing up to this wrong. |
As a patient, I support you in this critical endeavour. |
Thanks for all you are doing to protect us patients from PA & AA replacing Doctors. Good luck in your fight against the GMC to stop this happening! 💙#NHS 💙Doctors💙Anaesthetists |
Fight for our profession |
Back you all the way- as a patient |
Full support to Anaesthetists United for this action that protects standards of care when the GMC is derelict in it’s duty to patients. |
well done |
Get them! |
Keep up the good work! |
GMC. Not fit for purpose |
Completely support this action and personally would replace all elected senior members in RCoa for supporting this whole process |
The GMC needs root-and-branch reform and Massey must go. |
I wholely support your very important cause |
From Anaesthetists all UK wide – thank you!!! |
F1 doctor here – so grateful for you standing up for the NHS I want to work in. Everyone deserves to see a fully qualified doctor and know who is treating them |
As a retired anaesthetist, with 30 years clinical experience, I fully support this. |
I am a retired GP Anaesthetist (MRCGP, FRCA). Best wishes. |
With thanks for the lead you are taking in challenging this retrograde and dangerous mission creep |
Supporting doctors, no to be replaced |
Thank you on behalf of doctors and patients everywhere for fighting this just and important cause. People are coming to harm and doctors are leaving by the hundreds and thousands due to this imposed “profession” which none of us ever asked for. |
Thank you for fighting for all doctors around the UK…..We are already underpaid and on top of that new trained doctor has no vacancies to apply… this is very good stand … go for it .. 👏👏👏👏 |
Come at me |
I support your mission |
Oh go on then |
The GMC is undermining the medical profession and unfit to be its regulator. Thank you for challenging them! |
Hopefully you can stop this madness. My wife has been to our GP’s surgery at least 5 times and not been able to see a qualified GP once. Always a PA or a pharmacist |
I wish I could donate more, because, without fully trained Doctors, I would be dead right now! I live with multiple health problems, & a PA just wouldn’t be trained enough to deal with my case, so this is a real threat to the millions of people, like me! |
Thank you for standing up for our profession! |
Thank you for doing this! |
PA, AA are misleading in NHS and hope they were clearly supervised and controlled for unwanted mishaps to the patients. |
So dangerous, GMC is letting us and patients down. |
Best wishes |
Thanks for taking this essential action |
Thank you |
Dermatologist here. Keep up the fight |
This ambiguity & blurring of professional boundaries is both dangerous & unnecessary. The public are being deliberately misleading & the situation needs urgent clarification. I fully support this action by Anaesthetists United. |
Let’s get over the line- for patient safety |
Good luck |
The GMC in its current state is unfit for purpose. |
Keep going |
Time for some respect. |
Very concerned about the erosion of clinical excellence, safety standards and transparency in delivery of patient care. |
United against quackery and deception. |
I do not want to be treated by any PA, for any reason, unless under the direct supervision of a Physician or Surgeon fully qualified in the relevant field of Medicine being treated. |
#EnoughIsEnough |
This is National scandal |
Donated 3 times now, now going to give the equivalent of a London coffee a week. Keep it up! |
Thank you for standing up for our profession! PA/AA/SCP recruitment needs to stop; we need to keep our patients safe! |
For my son |
My late father spent his final months with all his care being handled by a PA who misrepresented herself to me as ‘your father’s doctor. I only found out after his death that he’d never been seen by the GP as his health declined. I was horrified at the deceit. |
Thank you for taking the fight forward on our behalf 🙏🏽 |
It’s a disaster . Not properly planned |
Thank you for doing this! |
This is a just and worthy course, saving the medical profession. |
PA SHOULd not replaced fully qualified doctor who studied hard to get to medical school and then studied and paid for 5-6 years to get this qualification. |
Good luck |
Im so pleased you guys are taking the initiative on this! Thanks so much |
GP trainee here Thank you With you till the end |
Justice for patients! Justice for doctors! |
Not a doctor but fully support your aims and those of the doctors striking for full pay restoration. Fight hard, your cause is just! |
Thank you for this legal challenge to the GMC. Whilst not wanting to undermine physician and nurse associates, their remit & responsibilities must be clear and safe. They must not replace doctors & nurses, of whom we need 1000s more, but support them in delivering safe & good care. |
Doctors train for at least five years. They have invested in this training. |
The founding principle of the NHS for all be enabled to gain access to a qualified Dr for initial diagnosis is bring eroded. Ask “Are you a qualified Dr ? ” Fight against American style privatisation and fragmentation. |
Very worthwhile case – need to look at competences of pharmacists too, IMHO |
Keep patients safe and keep giving training opportunities to doctors who have dedicated years to studying medicine! |
This is important work – patient safety is at stake. |
Thank you for your hard work! |
Thank you for taking up the fight |
Thank you, thank you and the very best good luck |
From an unemployed GP. |
Sock it to Sunak!!! |
Thank you for trying to keep us safe |
Stop misleading patients and the public! |
Proud of anaesthetists getting this together. Clarity needed for scope and kept distinct from doctors. |
Excellent work. Best wishes. |
Absolutely frightening times in UK health. So glad this is being challenged |
Thankyou for standing up for patients and challenging the increase in span of the PA role, without proper regulation. |
If you don’t want your flights pilot to be a half trained associate, why would you want your doctor to be the same. |
This is so important for patient safety! |
Thank you for doing this on behalf of all patients , present and future. As a retired doctor I am appalled by the PA/AA scandal. |
Best of luck! |
Something needs to be done to stop this madness |
PAs are dangerous. We need more doctors properly trained and regulated, not these people who are meant to be supervised by a senior doctor who are not supervising. The Tories are trying to destroy NHS care as it has been provided since 1948. They are destroying Drs careers and endangering patients. |
Let’s get this going! |
Sorry it can’t be more (I’m only a physiotherapist, money is tight!) I totally agree with this action. |
wishing you success |
Thank you for all that you are doing for the profession, standards and patient safety. Good luck! |
🦀 |
About time too! |
Thank you for saving the NHS |
Local GP practice using PAs in place of doctors. Feel cheated when given an appointment with a PA. |
Thank you for taking the next step to demand accountability and clarity from GMC |
Very supportive, the nonsense has to stop. I am a worried ex consultant who is now a healthcare consumer. |
Desperately trying to protect patients because the corrupt GMC and DHSE won’t. |
In support |
Keep going – fighting this Trojan horse is absolutely vital for patient safety and the future of the NHS! |
You guys are fighting the good fight ! |
So important to protect patients from people who aren’t competent |
Good luck with this action. It’s for all of our profession. |
Vital work, all the best |
I support Doctors |
Go fight for justice |
Well done somebody needed to take this on. |
May justice be served |
GMC so far over the line, the line is a dot to them! |
As a patient I want to see a definite scope of practice for PA & AA that ensures no wriggle room if things go wrong. That ensures clarity between Drs and PA/ AA in the same way Nurse Practitioner so patients know who is who. Where their scope reflects their training & doesn’t impact training Drs. |
Feel like I’m paying twice as GMC using my money to fight this! |
It is time this organisation was made accountable. Medicine in the UK is being destroyed as a profession and providing a safe service to patients is being sacrificed for reasons that are unfathomable |
Thank you for leading on the issue of our generation where our institutions are failing us. Please keep going! |
And should not be being paid more than us for working less hours, less responsibility, less student debt; with more control over where they work and when. So unjust. |
Outrageous that it’s down to to Anaesthetists to hold govt to account |
Thank you for voicing the concern of the majority about the dangers of underqualified individuals risking patient’s lives. |
Go, anaesthetists!! Every doctor in the country is behind you |
Break free from GMC chains |
They are just trying to lie to the public, to provide much less well-trained staff masquerading as doctors, whilst still dumping the ultimate legal responsibility on the doctor. The whole thing is a lie.I have had multiple ‘physician associates’ imply to me they are qualified doctors until challenged |
Time the GMC remembered what they’re for. |
Thanks for fighting for us all. |
Best of luck guys. You are the heroes. Thank you for doing this. |
Defund the gmc |
Incredible work guys – thank you so much! This process needs to be safe for patients if it’s going to happen at all. |
Not fit to regular Dr let alone MAPS. Defund the gmc. |
Thank you for standing up for patients |
💯💯 |
Thank you |
Appreciate all the work you are doing for such an important cause |
Thank you on behalf of patients everywhere |
Love to see it! Can always trust the anaesthetists to get the ball rolling. I’m a medical student with over £70,000 of student loans debt. Still have 2 years to go! Between this and the new apprenticeship programme, it’s easy to lose hope in the future. Keep fighting the good fight. |
We have the same problem in GP. No problem working with PAs ( I train them) but 100% agree that there needs to be a clear delineation and clear responsibility. PA/AA needs to fully responsible for every of their decisions/actions and patients need to know who is treating them |
Thank you for standing up for our profession, and for protecting patient safety and quality of care. |
From another person deeply concerned about the future of the profession |
Fair play! |
Keep up the good fight! |
Fully support your aim. Wish I could give more! Good luck ending this craziness |
Defund the GMC |
As an aspiring CT1 anaesthetist, the expansion of PAs and AAs is greatly troubling. |
Well done for taking action on this critical issue. Words fall on deaf ears. We are all in full support. |
You can always count on anaesthetists in an emergency |
I completely support this endeavor. You, not the College are the true voice of our specialty. |
This is one reason why Im leaving the profession. It’s insulting we have to jump through years of hoops and competition only to have “associates” get more opportunities, better hours & pay and not rotate. How can the GMC regulate them but leave part of their scope of practice to local guidelines? |
We need a medical registration body rather than a dysfunctional, dystopian administrative penal institution focused on producing nonsensical publications and targeting doctors by using 160+ million from doctors fees. The GMC need to be disbanded as soon as possible. |
Well done Anaesthetists United, doing the right thing on behalf of every specialty. |
This is a critical issue for patient safety and providing the best for patients. Thank you for setting this up. |
From a concerned patient who only wants properly qualified people treating them. |
Thanks for your efforts in taking this forward. |
There is no reason not to support this since our subscription fees will be used to fund GMC’s defence |
I hope this is a catalyst for real, meaningful change. I commend you for taking this stand on our behalf. |
Keep fighting the good fight! It’s time the GMC was held accountable for its eroding of doctors in the NHS. |
I would donate more but as a junior doctor I can’t afford to |
Time to lift some heavy ass books. Lightweight baby. |
The GMC are destroying medicine in the UK. |
Good luck |
Time this corrupt organisation to understand our frustrations. |
Please win |
Thank you for doing this! |
JUSTICE FOR DOCTORS |
This is outrageous. All the risky and fiendishly difficult procedures left to the doctors and all the easier enjoyable stuff to “non-doctor associates”. Also trainee junior doctors miss out on really important training opportunities. |
Thank you for taking a stand |
I’m dismayed at the lack of appropriate guidance from the GMC and the lack of understanding being shown towards this issue. It’s not much but I hope it helps! |
Very worthy cause. All the best. |
Yes please |
Good luck with the fund raiser. This is such an important issue. |
As a Dr stuck at a bottleneck trying to get into specialty training for last 3 years and watching PAs get employed in said specialty thank you for doing this, we need to start standing up to all the powers that be including the GMC, HEE, NHS England and most royal colleges. They are all complicit |
Watching this with great interest as a doctor who has fled the NHS to Australia. Would love to come back to the UK to be closer to family but concerned about the rise of AA/ PA and the wider implications they have to the NHS. |
Sorry I couldn’t donate more. Living on disability doesn’t leave much change at the end of the month. |
You guys are doing amazing work, keep it up! |
If the GMC is to register PAs they MUST define scope of practice. PAs should assist as was intended and cannot replace doctors and should not be mistaken for doctors. The GMC is letting us all down. |
Please get this insanity changed |
PAs should be regulated by the HCPC, not the GMC. They should not be allowed to use the term ´associate’ – they are ´assistants’ |
Horrified at this decline in qualification standards |
Thank you for standing up for the profession 🙏 |
I support this cause to put things right . |
This is fantastic ! Stick it to the *******! |
No cheaper alternatives for doctors and consultants please….! Say no to putting patients lives at risk. |
GMC should not confuse the public PAs are not doctors |
It is essential that this is clarified in the interests of patient safety. Keep up the good work. |
Thank you |
Thanks for taking the lead on this issue. It needs more public attention and people responsible need to to be held accountable for the mess they gave created. Good luck. |
Thank you for undertaking this important challenge, from a concerned member of the public/patient |
I feel strongly that we must make a stand to protect our profession |
I’m a medical student and so disheartened by what has been allowed to happen to patient care in the UK. The GMC has been utterly negligent and complicit in threatening patient safety. |
Good luck with the case. This is important. |
PAs and AAs are part of the destruction of the NHS. |
I feel so passionately about this. Patients frequently do not know who they have been seen/treated by and do not understand the difference in training between the multitude of relatively new job roles in the nhs. Quality, safety and transparency is paramount from a Dermatology consultant |
Stop the Tories watering down the NHS |
Support from nz |
Good initiative. I would love to join and support from a Consultant Anaesthetist |
Good luck! |
As a retired anaesthetist there’s no way I would want a AA treating me. |
🐻 |
Thank you for taking care of our safety. |
Architect supporting doctors |
Dumbing down medicine in this way is really dangerous and threatens the whole standard and reputation of UK medicine. Well done, AU |
Patients deserve to know who they’re dealing with. ♥️ |
Keep up the good work. |
Thanks for your initiative |
Great cause and it is essential to stop ambiguity and define scope of practice. Medical school is the route for those who want to do more! |
Well done to the AU team for this. We will ensure safe patient care, even if it means forcing the GMC to do their job! |
Hats off to you! |
Solidarity! Patients need real Doctor Anaesthetists not dangerous substitutes |
Should we stop paying GMC fees? NHS managers should be made accountable for the time we waste due to their agenda. This new system is a ticking bomb on the future of Medical training. |
Physician Associates have their place supporting NOT substituting for qualified doctors. |
It’s time for the GMC to be accountable for their actions . Keep up the good work! Patient safety comes ABOVE and BEFORE the feelings of PAs/AAs. Wanna play doctor? GEM Is the option for you if you’re good enough. |
Thanks for taking up this challenge at a time when our College & Association ‘leadership’ is so sadly lacking. |
I’m delighted the GMC are being taken on about this. I need to remain anon as PA trouble at work. |
The GMC has lost the confidence of doctors and will lose the confidence of the general public when their duplicitous approach to regulation for patient safety becomes more widely known. After a number of serious errors Charles Massey should resign. |
Brave but very important work. Thank you for your efforts. |
The GMC needs to be held to account. |
As a junior doctor, I fully support you with this campaign. A PA and an AA absolutely does not have enough knowledge and training to replace doctors and must not be regulated by GMC |
As you said time for letter writing is over. Some one needs to take a stand – thank you anaesthetists united. The GMC aren’t listening. This is a matter of patient safety |
Everybody wanna be a doctor, but don’t nobody wanna lift no heavy ass books. |
The GMC must be challenged |
the first rule of medicine is that it you are worried about a patient, you call your friends the anaesthetists – who would have thought this would apply if you’re also worried about your entire profession! |
Stop this appalling de-regulation creep |
It’s about time the country paid for what it takes! |
Good luck- an extremely important principle at stake. |
Keep fighting the good fight |
Anyone who cares about patient safety should support this action |
I have a Physiology PhD. The idea of being a physician associate terrifies me & I’m better qualified. |
The role and specific value add of physician associates amidst the plethora of MDT roles (the remainder of which bring unique value individually where scope is clear) has honestly remained very vague and unclear & their deployment considering their education is worryingly inadequate. This is needed |
Fantastic work, thank you |
I disagree with AAs and PAs in our NHS system. If our own doctors are saying that this is unsafe, then is it a time of DANGER. The public demands an NHS that is controlled by the public, not someone who can bribe an MP to lower standards, so that they can extort more money from ownership. |
Thank you for taking this brave step on behalf of patients, the NHS as a whole and fellow doctors. |
Many thank thanks for taking this battle on. It is now time to stop the GMC and our government from distroying medcine and its safe practice. This is only the start of changes needed |
The GMC are undermining doctors and placing patients at risk. They must he held to account. |
Keep fighting the good fight |
I’m a former nurse and value Dr’s knowledge, skill and experience. I want to be cared for by Drs when necessary. |
Keep up the great work. |
Enough is enough |
Clarity is crucial for the happiness of all. |
I’m a physician; my college lacks the cojones to organise a similar activity. I hope you take the GMCto the cleaners. |
Second pledge. I hadn’t realised the money wasn’t taken until 4th July, by which time my financial circumstances will have improved! Thanks again for this initiative to ensure patient safety remains at the heart of good medical practice. |
We are fully supporting you. It is my first time to donate to such groups and I believe you are the one who deserve |
Doing amazing work, and of such importance. We must safeguard our patients and our profession! |
Good luck with this and thank you for taking action. |
I’m not an anaesthesiologist but I understand the wider implications on our profession |
Patient safety is a major issue. This has gone on for too long. The GMC are body that does not seem to understand what their job is. |
Thanks for putting up a fight against mediocrity and lower standards! We patients deserve better. |
I am an Anesthetist and support your cause and dont like the lines been blurred. |
We all know this is a dire approach when the solution is to fund the NHS properly. GMC should know this a non-starter anyway, but skipping consultation is a disgraceful way to carry on. |
Very glad you are doing this. GMC should not be involved with non-doctors. |
Patients believe they’re seeing a qualified Dr when they see a PA. Some PAs sign letters as Dr… and order inappropriate investigations and referrals at excess cost to the NHS. Busy GPs need help from qualified GPs not PAs needing their supervision |
Time to shake the ivory towers |
Thank you for the tenacity, hard work and time taken to do this. It does not fall on deaf ears. I support you wholeheartedly. |
I am appalled At the damage being done to our health service so quickly . This is disgraceful . PA,s working as doctors but not registered and therefore not accountable . Dangerous |
The GMC has badly let down doctors. Everywhere else in the world requirements to become a doctor are increasing. I fear for the future when the GMC is lobbying for registration of Physician Associates against the interests of doctors. A parent of a doctor and a medical student. |
The medical profession and patients are behind you. Keep going! |
Goodluck!! Save UK’s healthcare. As an IMG I am already regretting working here so far. |
Fight aganist this ambiguity |
Keep up the incredible work – accountability is at the heart of what we do, this must be the same for the regulator |
Good luck |
Supporting you from Australia. This is a very important principle. |
I would never feel safe with AAs anaesthetising me or my loved ones, and I wouldn’t want this for anyone else. |
Thank you for upholding patient safety |
Thank you. As a patient I am worried about who I might see when I’m at my most vulnerable. |
This is an important case to take forward. Good luck. |
Thank you for leading on this! |
The current situation is not wise or sustainable for good patient care. The strong clear message by AU sends a clear signal that all doctors should appreciate. As a specialist in Forensic and Legal Medicine, I thank you. |
AA & PA – roles need defining. Playing doctor is not acceptable |
We need press and publicity to elicit change |
Anaesthetic trainee and big fan. Keep up the good work |
As a retired consultant anaesthetist, who spent years advocating for patient safety, it is crucial to ensure that we all receive the highest standard of care. There is no room for diluting standards of safety to save money. |
There needs to be clear and comprehensive guidance and scope. You cannot have a system where a doctor holds liability for a PA without a clear scope and guidance. |
‘PA’s and ‘AA’s are NOT ‘associates’. No other profession in the world has ‘associates’ who are not members of the profession: lawyers, solicitors, architects, engineers, accountants, priests, etc. Patients must give informed consent, not be misled, the GMC should not regulate PA/AAs. Integrity. |
The GMC needs to put the interests of patients at heart and not simply become an organ of government policy |
As a radiographer I see the scope creep happing in our hospital and I hope this action can stop dangerously under qualified people playing at being doctors. I won’t ever accept ionising radiation requests from PAs! Let’s stop the madness |
GMC is a disgrace and this must stop. |
Doing the Lord’s work 🙏 |
Thank you for standing up for us AU |
Thank you for challenging our dysfunctional GMC and holding them to account for failing to protect patients and support doctors which is their remit |
Would donate more but I’m a broke med student sorry |
Retired GP telling you to love PAs, with an undeclared conflict of interest. |
Keep up the hustle, you’re doing good work |
Not anaesthetics but patients rely on doctors to advocate for them. |
I am worried sick about the PA/AA developments, and the GMC’s outrageous stance. Please fight for us! |
A just cause . FRCS colleague |
🫡🫡🫡🫡 |
the MAP project is political and unfair for training doctors as well as increidbly unsafe for patients |
A long-term patient grateful for the stand you are taking. |
Let’s goooo! What a corrupt organisation. |
Thank you. From the whole UK medical community. Leading where others have failed. |
Please win our dignity back. |
Thank you |
The GMC does not and will never listen. UK medical regulation needs radical change from the top down. We need a new, fair regulator with some insight into the real patient safety issues. AAs and PA = ‘Medical Professionals’. Who are they kidding? |
Sorry I can’t pledge more at the moment but feel very strongly about this appalling dumbing down of UK supposed healthcare |
Good luck – we are a medical/nursing family who were (happily) highly regulated. This lack of transparency must be exposed |
The medical profession must no longer be threatened and silenced by a malicious leadership that has neither the medical profession’s nor the patient’s best interests at heart. Thank you to Anaesthetists United for reigniting my/others’ faith in the viability of practising medicine in the UK. |
🐻 |
Thank you for standing up for the profession. You have our full support. |
Thank you for taking this wholly necessary action to protect both our patients and the profession |
We must protect the dignity of this noble profession. |
Thank you. You have given a spark of hope to an incredibly demoralised and burnt out F1. Thank you for doing what is right. |
I’m a consultant anaesthetist. I wouldn’t allow a family to be anaesthetised by an AA. I want the same for other people’s families. |
High professional standards of both training and practice are what keep patients safe. GMC should be for doctors to avoid ambiguity. |
From a nurse who wholeheartedly supports our fantastic Doctor colleagues, and for all the patients wrongly informed about their care providers. |
As a fellow doctor, I wish you well |
Hopefully this action may force some self-reflection at long last by this ivory-tower quango who have lost all trust with doctors. Time for Massey and the rest to have a well deserved, public stain on their own portfolios. Not fit for purpose. Prof standards referral needed too. |
Keep going and keep up the fight |
Train doctor. Let’s stop the training bottleneck |
Thank you for doing this. Finally a mechanism to try to hold this organisation to account. |
Thank you for all you are doing 👏🌷 |
I pray you win. Quickly and decisively. |
CAMHS Consultant. Thank you for regulating the so called regulator. |
Brilliant and much needed work. |
Keep going!! |
Sorry I can’t do more. I will as circumstances change! Good luck! |
Protect our profession, protect our patients! |
This is as much for the farcical kangaroo court you made me attend as a witness when I was a much more vulnerable trainee with sod all notice as the current utter fiasco you have allowed to fester without leadership or direction. GMC deserve all of this and donating this money genuinely makes me hap |
Best of luck. Keep up the fight. |
Thank you for taking a stance against this scandal for both patients and doctors! |
With you all the way! |
They simply do not care about us or the public |
Good luck! My donation is for every patient that the GMC/Gov has let down. A fight for those who have the least against those who have the most. They have sought to privatise, downgrade and profit from healthcare in the U.K. Time for the truth and time for it to stop. |
Thank you so much for doing this! |
Thanks guys. |
GMC needs to be challenged to protect patients’ safety |
Let’s go! |
It’s about time someone did this. Thank you and good luck |
CT2 Trainee – thank you for protecting our patients and profession |
Good luck, from a concerned paediatrician. Patients (and families) should be able to trust the competence of their clinicians, and to know who is and more importantly is not a doctor. |
Thank you for the massive amount of work that you are doing, voluntarily, on behalf of patients. We are at our most vulnerable when we are ill and we should be treated with expert care. There is no short cut to having the competency of a doctor. I hope you win this case, for all of our sakes. |
Good luck |
It was my dream to become a doctor – I worked hard to earn that skillset and cannot bare to see people take a dangerous shortcut to claim false equivalence! Keep up the good fight!! |
Glad you are doing this – for all of us. Happy to pledge again next month. |
This move to substitute inadequately trained personnel for trained doctors and anaesthetists will have disastrous results if it succeeds. |
GMC are not fit for purpose! |
My full support for your cause to fight the GMC |
Together we can save our profession! 💪🏻 |
Good luck and thank you ( grateful member of public) |
Thank you for trying to protect Drs and the public |
The GMC are bullying us…let’s fight back! |
Thank you for doing this, from a concerned FY1 and their partner |
Physician Associates have less training than a newly qualified doctor. Why is the GMC supporting them? |
Keep up the great work – the whole PA/AA thing is ridiculous and unsafe. |
Keep up the great work |
Thank you for doing this, I wish you the best of luck for all our sakes. |
Best wishes! |
Do not allow doctors to become replaced by less qualified people who want to play with patients’ lives. Remember the years and years of exams that doctors have had to pass to get to where they are! |
The GMC should not be the regulator for non-doctors. |
Save the public, save our jobs! |
This is very important work. Thank you for your time and effort. A massive thank you on behalf of all doctors |
The shocking use of PA/AAs is the next NHS scandal. The use of the term “associate” rather than “assistant” is deliberately misleading, confusing for patients and totally unsafe if in a doctors role given the comparatively small knowledge base they work with. GMC regulation furthers this confusion |
Please do something about it. If not, I am leaving the country. |
Thank you |
Happy to help |
Get this GMC scum out. Actively working against doctors and ignoring the majority view from the people who are responsible for delivering healthcare. Ladder pulling traitors |
Good luck |
Good luck! |
Ceterum censeo GMC esse delendam |
Thank you for taking this very important issue forward, patient safety should be at the forefront of the GMC’s concerns but this sadly is very clearly not the case. |
Great work for patient safety |
Solidarity from a medical student horrified about the current state of affairs |
No one wanna lift them heavy books these days |
Cant wait for the GMC to be defunded. What charity uses its money to give its members private insurance. |
Keep up the good work |
This is unfortunately a necessity |
Best money I ever spent, this is vital to the future of the medical profession |
THank you for taking on this fight. |
This pensioner is bothered: several issues together. |
Thank you for fighting the good fight |
Thanks for taking initiative and doing what we’ve all been praying for. The GMC has lost its way. It no longer protects. It actively harms. If they won’t listen to reason, they’ll listen to legal action. Drag them. |
Support from med students |
The GMC is corrupt (and racist) and must be destroyed. |
Fully appreciate the hard work you guys have put into this & thank you! Time we had some accountability |
Thank you to all the medics who are bravely speaking up on behalf of us patients who are losing faith in the NHS when we can’t be confident that who is treating us is properly trained, qualified, experienced, professional and registered! You people rock! |
Thanks for your hard work representing us 🙂 |
So necessary. |
All for this. Thank you AU! |
I support doctors and GPs we need properly qualified doctors including anesthetists |
Thank you for standing up for both patients and doctors. |
All the best |
Doctors are doctors. The myriad of “Associates” are not Doctors. GMC is losing focus of who and what they represent. |
This must be stopped .The GMC should be ashamed . What does Labour have to say about this? I have hard nothing so far. |
med student. for a better future. |
Well done guys |
Best of luck with this important action. A retired gasman. |
PAs are not fit for purpose and should never replace a doctor |
Fight the good fight |
Thanks for your work |
Don’t stop fighting |
Thank you for doing this , GMC no longer fit for purpose . |
To rub salt in wounds the substantial funds GMC will use to defend this are from the fees all registered doctors have to pay. PAs paying much lower fees as I understand it, even though they earn more than many junior doctors. Another scandal. Good luck. |
Thank you |
About time the corrupt GMC was held to account |
Fight the good fight for our patients and the future of our medical training. |
At last some professionals willing to stand up for their profession and thereby protect the patients they treat. |
Good luck with this – if legal action fails the we should consider a stoppage of fees for GMC across the profession |
Totally support this. GMC is a joke, as a doctor of 28 years experience I have absolutely no confidence in the GMC. |
Fully support this |
Good luck! |
Thank you for fighting for patient safety. One profession. |
Thanks for doing this important work. |
Thank you for taking this action – it’s vital for patient safety and the future of a viable NHS that this matter is resolved urgently |
The whole profession is with you! Thank you for your work. |
Get ‘em |
Fantastic that you’re taking this on. Thank you all. |
Thank you for doing this and fighting for our profession. We will win this in court. Please please all doctors with a conscience donate for our patients who are being placed at risk by this lousy government policy. Patients, we will always act to safeguard your wellbeing. |
Thanks for taking on this case. The gmc should stick to regulating doctors only. A gmc number should be for doctors only. The lines should not be blurred. A PA is not a doctor so should not be regulated by the regulators of doctors |
Thank you Anaesthetists United for leading the charge |
AU have held the RCoA to account over the AA expansion debacle and now is leading the way to hold the GMC to account too. This is an important issue for both patient safety and doctors’ professional identity. Good luck! 🐻 |
Thanks for all your efforts. Patients deserve better. |
Thank you on behalf of patient safety. |
Well done on taking the initiative and doing something about the disgraceful failure of the GMC to do its duty and protect patients. |
Radiologist in full support 👏👏👏👏 |
Thank you for supporting doctors stand up for patient safety |
Small amount… for now 😉 |
A worthy cause! Patients deserve better! |
Glad you’re taking action |
It’s every patients right to see fully trained doctors not PAs |
Shameful that this government is replacing doctors for PAs in this country, trying to undermine doctors and putting people’s health in danger. |
Not all heroes wear capes |
Keep up the good work. |
Finally |
Vital cause for patient safety and ensuring high standards of medical care. Thank you for doing this |
Fundemental issues of patient safety need addressing with national guidance re scope. GMC have lost their fundemental direction here in representing doctors and protecting patients from non medical practitioners. |
Good luck! |
This is a national scandal and it’s time the GMC and government are held to account |
The General Medical Council was given powers under the Medical Act 1983 to regulate doctors and protect the public from those falsely claiming to be qualified when they are not. But instead, we have watched with dismay as doctors are quietly being replaced by ‘Associates’. Worse still, the GMC appea |
This work is essential so that the quality of our health care is not diminished to temporarily plug holes in our poorly staffed services due to droves of UK trained doctors leaving the system for better working and pay conditions abroad. |
We need to hold GMC to account. |
Absolutely imperative this is sorted. All the best. |
Support from member of the public appalled by what’s going on. |
Very important work to protect our healthcare from those dismantling it for personal gain. |
If you want to be seen by a doctor in future and not by a non-medical person. |
Regulation from GMC is very much needed (and welcomed by the Anaesthesia Associates I know). Keep up the great work! |
Finished my medical degree and left as I didn’t feel I could handle the NHS, this PA nonsense has really validated my decision. GMC are government puppets and unfit for purpose, we need a new regulator that doesn’t embolden unqualified individuals to practice medicine on unsuspecting patients. |
This a really important step. The GMC needs to know that it can be held to account. |
Staff needs to be fully trained, no shortcuts |
Many thanks for taking up this worthy cause There are many of us who will be supporting your pledge |
Thank you for not giving up |
Patient safety 📈 Noctors 📉 |
I’m a doctor. I work with PA’s daily witnessing the misrepresentation of roles and mismanagement of patients. Our government and governing bodies are wilfully failing to protect patients and the medical profession. I felt utterly powerless, but now at least there’s hope. |
Doctors have a duty to raise patient safety concerns. It’s appalling that the GMC won’t listen to these. Time to take a stand for our patients and to maintain that standards of medical qualifications. |
Enough is enough. Doctors are having to do the job of the GMC by standing up for the care and safety of their patients. The GMC have let us and our patients down for too long. |
Thank you for doing this! From an anaesthetist in training worried about his future. |
You have the support of the profession and patients. It’s about time |
Good luck |
Well done for doing this. Good luck. So glad to support this as a doctor. |
I have never even heard of these Physician Associates. Who has decided they can take over from Doctors? Yet another round of nonsense coming out of governments and I am pleased to hear there are those willing to oppose them. |
This is soo important! |
Thank you very m |
This must be pursued urgently to prevent any further patient harm and protect the future of the medical profession. This cannot go on any further. |
Nothing wrong with Physician Associates in the right place. This is not the right place and they have no business in the GMC. And anaesthetists already have assistants; they are called ODPs and are appropriately regulated. |
Thank you so much for doing this. As a patient, AAs/PAs are an incredible worry. The “powers that be” are letting the medical professional and patients down. |
Thank you for standing up for our profession 👏 Stop the advanced associate pseudopractitioner noctor madness! |
Keep fighting the good fight. |
Thank you. |
Thank you for doing this. The GMC exploits how it is largely unaccountable but, ultimately. no-one is above the law. |
This is incredibly important. Stop it now |
The truth will prevail |
It’s time to unite and reclaim our profession. Patients are quite literally dying and we are the only ones who are willing to stop it. If we don’t, nobody will |
Medical profession, standards of medical care and public health at risk. Stop the experiment with PA/AA. |
Final year medical student worried about my future, patient safety, and the failure of the GMC as a regulator. |
ED reg here. This is amazing, well done for standing up for what’s right |
As a GP, I have seen the mismanagement of patients by PA’s first hand. Thank you for safeguarding our patients. |
For Emily and all those whom have and will suffer from the “I’m one of the [insert speciality] team” project |
Please take this fight forward. IMT-1 NI |
The GMC is to safeguard the public from people pretending to be doctors, not actively supporting it |
Go team! |
You’re doing amazing work. It’s not much but I’m happy to be able to support you guys. Thank you |
Stay strong, keep up the good work and do not sell your souls no matter how many gongs or postnomials they give you! |
A concerned member of the public, ref patient safety. |
Thank you so much for fighting for our profession and for the safety of our patients. |
Thank you, fully support this. |
What is a PA |
Thank you for your efforts. Fully support this. |
Thank you 💪 |
Political capture needs to end. |
Indeed, it’s my job to safeguard my patients as Dr and my family as a member of public. |
This is a small pledge to show my support for this vital campaign which has patient safety at the core. Thanks for this initiative. I plan to add to it next week when my pension is paid. |
Extremely important |
GMC have forgotten their primary role- regulation of doctors to protect standards. |
I’m just a patient but I share your concerns about AA/PAs who are, despite assurances to the contrary, replacing Drs. I totally support your actions & hope GMC see sense. We need to value our Drs! |
Patients deserve the accepted standard level of care, not cut price alternatives. |
To prioritise our patients’ safety over MAPs’ egos. |
As a budding anaesthetist, I wholeheartedly agree with this action and I’m glad I will be joining a specialty with a backbone, standing for doctors rights and ultimately safety of patients! |
Good luck. The growth in doctor associates without nationally defined scope, and seeing undifferentiated patients is wreckless |
As a retired NHS physio, I was glad to be regulated by the HCPC to deliver high quality patient care within clearly defined scope of practice. I’m dismayed at the GMC’s poor and inadequate approach to PA/AA regulation. As a patient, I’m deeply worried. Thank you for speaking out for patient safety |
As a patient I am concerned about the blurring of the distinction between doctors and PAs. It should be clear to anyone receiving care that a basic level of competence has been achieved by their caregivers, and the lack of clear scope of practice prevents this from happening and undermines the NHS. |
Good luck and thank you for standing up for the profession and public. |
I’m a foundation doctor who is so dismayed with the future of training. This has given me the first bit of hope I’ve had in a long time Thank you for this. |
This may finally get the GMC to understand our concerns. As a hospital doctor, I am in full support of this legal case. |
I supervise PA as they have replaced my Doctors in our A&E. I can tell you lives are being lost. |
Thank you for your tireless efforts to improve patient care and safety through appropriate workforce regulation. |
Thank you for acting on behalf of us patients ❤️ |
Thanks for pursuing this |
Proud of Anaesthetists United for leading the way. It’s time to eliminate this quackery |
You will have thousands of signatories backing you. Keep up this good work. Although the GMC was created to weed out so called quacks, we mustn’t forget that it was we doctors who made the GMC in the first place. It’s up to us to keep the GMC fit for purpose. |
Thank you for standing up the “Bully Boy” GMC. I hope that litigation in the courts teaches them the values that they should already know. Maybe one day soon we can get back to putting patients first while making sure dedicated clinicians feel supported and valued |
GMC is unfit to practice. |
The first step to recovery |
Thanks so much for pushing this forward. |
The way that PAs/AAa are going to be regulated leaves significant patient safety concerns and it is a shame that we are having to resort to legal action. |
Thank you for fighting for our future. |
All we are calling for is distinct regulation and scopes of practice. GMC do your job |
Thank you for allowing us to have this topic publicly discussed on a legal basis. Very grateful for your work. |
This madness has to stop, GMC is enabling erosion of patient care and failing to do its job. Needs complete change at the top and to refocus on its original purpose. |
Thank you. |
Well down for taking this step! |
Well, well, well, how the turntables… |
Truth matters |
Govey loves to Movey! |
GMC has been unfit in their duty to protect patients. Rather than being an independent regulator they have colluded with DHSC. They did not consult public- when they did, used too wordy document to put public off |
Thank you to AU for standing up for doctors, and acting, rather than sitting around. Proud to be starting CT1 anaesthetics in August and joining you! |
Thank you so much for taking the lead on this. As a doctor and patient, I believe this issue needs scrutiny by either the Courts or the Parliament – and it has to be the former given the lack of political will across all parties. Will be a hard fight since we are up against the entire establishment |
Medical student here, thank you so much for fighting for the future of our profession! |
Thank you, from a concerned member of the public. |
Inspiring to see the smart activism of AU. |
Thank you |
Keep going. It’s so important. Thanks for being brave |
💯 solidarity |
Legal action is the only way forward now. Thank you to AA for taking this action on behalf of the medical profession!! |
This is a scandal unfolding in front of us. Patients need to be protected |
You wouldn’t fly in a plane with someone who isn’t a pilot. You wouldn’t hire a lawyer who hasn’t practised law. You wouldn’t get your teeth pulled out by someone who isn’t a dentist. GMC need to stop playing with patients lives and enabling deaths. Only doctors should practice medicine. |
🫡 |
Thank you for organising this and taking this important step to safeguard patients |
The GMC has facilitated the deception. |
Only fully qualified Doctors should practice medicine. This is a major patient safety issue. |
Such an important moment for ensuring future patient safety. |
From a final year medical student who is very worried about their future in the NHS, as well as patient safety. |
Such an important legal case. For far too long the GMC is not held accountable |
Go get em. |
Thank you. I’m not a medic, just a very concerned member of the public. |
Wish you all well in your campaign. |
The most important work yet! |
Keep up the great work. |
Thank you for pursuing this. Perhaps it will only be in the cold light of court that will allow a crisp dissection of the GMC’s obfuscating language and behaviour and force some answers. |
Best wishes for the legal fight. |
The GMC are not acting in patient’s best interests nor the sustainability of the NHS. It is up to clinicians (medically trained doctors) to lead all in the fight against this transparent farce. Public should see this for what it is, a way to destroy the NHS starting with doctors. Follow the money. |
It’s about time someone stood up to the GMC, behind you all the way |
Using P/As means grossly inadequate, cheapskate treatment peddled by the GMC. Thankyou for taking action. |
Thanks for standing up for patients and the profession. Good luck! |
Thank you for continuing to push to get this situation improved |
Keep it up! |
The GMC was founded by doctors and paid by doctors. Time to bring it back to its purpose. Only doctors can practice medicine! |
Openness and transparency are key. |
Fully behind holding the GMC to account, at long last! |
Well done on fighting this worthy cause. The GMC has clearly shown it is unfit to protect the patients it claims to serve. This is a huge patient safety issue and the next ‘Post Office scandal’. The GMC is unfit for purpose. |
Regulations around medical practice with years of training is there for a reason. Undermining it lets down the very people we serve as medical faculty. It also let’s down AHPs who also want to serve the community such as the PAs without having robust guidance. |
Served on Council of professional regulator and cannot understand this amount of risk to the public. |
I want to know if I’m seeing a doctor or someone not qualified! |
Thank you. Safety must prevail |
Life is not the amount of breaths you take. It’s the moments that take your breath away |
Good luck |
Right behind you!!! Amazing work Anaesthetists United 👏🏼🙌🏼👍🏼🌟🙏🏼!! |
You guys are fantastic, please keep up the good work |
The medical regulator has chosen to ignore key patient safety issues as well as degrading professional doctors training. It is, therefore, no longer fit for purpose in its current iteration and needs to be replaced. Thank you for the legal challenge that seeks to address this alarming issue. Regard, |
Well done for picking this up and running with it. I am very disappointed in the GMCs stand and surprised that both the College and Association seem to be less vocal than they should be |
I support you in this |
Thank you for being brave enough to stand up for patient safety. |
We are right behind you. Patient safety and high quality care are paramount. Thank you for all you’re doing.. |
Good luck! |
This is another example of how the GMC undermine doctor’s authority & status. |
Defending the profession and the health of the UK public. Keep it going. |
Such an important issue |
Drag them sis!!!! |
This needs to be done. Good luck. |
I support this mission. |
I have 4 doctors in my family with a combined total of over 45 years of training from education school and only one is consultant level the rest are nearly there but not quite ( another 2 years for one 3 for another ) that’s how long it takes to become an experienced doctor PA’s pose a real danger |
Well done! |
Keep fighting the good fight. |
I wish you all the success in this battle. The GMC needs urgent reform and just be removed from government influence. |
The ‘vocal minority’ troupe is over. This a profession defining moment |
They have been unaccountable for too long. |
I am sorry that this legal action is needed. |
Good luck! |
Deus vult |
It’s a role that shouldn’t exist. |
Best of luck |
Thank you for all your hard work |
You deserve a doctor! Go Anaesthetists United 💪🏽 |
Best of luck |
ODP’s are standing with you |
The 11th hour for patient safety and medicine in the UK. Godspeed! |
About time … This omnishambles has been going on for far too long. |
No to fake doctors |
Keep up the pressure and thanks for taking up this battle and looking after patients and their safety. You deserve better! |
A national outrage and utter failure of GMC leadership to protect patients. |
One must not side idle, this is the start. |
Please save patients from this terrifying risk. |
Thank you to the anaesthetists for organising this and best of luck with the case 💪 |
Thank you for doing this. |
Get em |
Crucial work. |
Good work |
Glad to see this challenge. Hugely important for patient safety |
Thank you for taking this forward. A very important issue. |
You deserve better |
Go for it! |
The GMC must be held to account |
Thank you for defending my honour From The Medical Act 1983 |
We need to make the GMC accountable to the public and to the profession, this is the start. |
About time someone cooked this up!! |
Thank you for fighting for the rights of patients |
